Nintendo Wii Controllers Set the Wii Apart from All Other Systems

It is official: the Nintendo Wii is a phenomenon.  Its unique and innovative design and ease of use has made it one of the best-loved video game platforms of our time.  There truly is nothing that comes close to the amazing capabilities and potential of the Wii.

When the Wii was being developed, Nintendo decided that they wanted to make it accessible and useable for people of all ages and abilities.  Instead of the standard controllers that require a lot of manual dexterity to operate, they wanted to create a controller that could be used by younger and older people as well as people with disabilities.

What came out of that desire were the Nintendo Wii controllers.  Unlike other video game controllers, Nintendo Wii controllers are easily held in the palm of your hand.  They are around the size of a remote control and can be easily manipulated by just moving them around.

This is one of the biggest advantages of Nintendo Wii controllers: they are motion-sensitive and operate largely based on your movements.  This is a novel concept that has really taken the gaming world by storm.  It seems that we are finally getting closer to the virtual reality games that we all fantasized about in the dawn of the video game era.

In addition to the standard Nintendo Wii controllers, there are add-on controllers called nunchuks.  These connect to the Nintendo Wii controllers through a cable and allow for an even greater range of motion and actions.  Using both controllers, you can use both hands in a boxing match, fire a bow and arrow, or navigate more accurately through spaces in a game.

The Secret of Wii’s Success

The Wii probably would not have been the great success that it is if not for the innovative Nintendo Wii controllers.  You only need to point the controller at the screen and move it around to interact with your game.  Some games require you to press a button or two while aiming at the screen, but the buttons are large, well-placed, and very easy to use.

The ease of use has made the Wii a natural choice for nontraditional gamers such as very young children and elderly people.  The Wii has even been used as a rehabilitation tool in some cases to help people regain function and upper body mobility after an accident or injury.  This console and its innovative controllers have opened up the world of gaming to an entirely new demographic.

Nintendo Wii controllers have evolved and will continue to do so well into the future.  The game Wii Fit uses an amazing new controller called a Balance Board to read the position of your body for use with a fitness routine program.

We are truly seeing the future of gaming unfold right before our eyes.  The technology and care that have gone into developing the Nintendo Wii controllers will no doubt continue to spawn even more fantastic gaming input devices and methods that let us do incredible things with video games.
